Celebrity Death Pool!!!
OK, so I haven't been "active" as of late on the racing circuit due to my soccer mom responsiblities. I've decided to have fun another way! Check out the "other Project Mary Stuff" page for details!
UPDATE! Simon and Brian are now tied for first (and only) place: Simon scored first with Charlton Heston. Brian scored for Estelle Getty. Both were 84 so Brian and Simon have 16 points (100 - 84 = 16) . Michelle is next with the Passing of Bettie Page who was 85. I'm in the basement.
2007 Autumnbahn
Mary took best mini at the 2007 autumnbahn car show, held at the houston farm and ranch club! but honestly, it was kind of an empty win. there were only two minis entered. Not really surprising as they wanted a $30 pre-entry fee, $45 day of, and your car had to be there from 8:30 am to 5 pm. You were only allowed to leave once. it was hot, in a large parking lot with nothing much to do. thank god for red bull and vitamin water who were giving away drinks! the dj was annoying and playing non-kid-friendly music with kids running about. the trophy ceremony was not only about an hour late, but all kinds of messed up. What really pissed me off was the judging. it was toted as being judged by so-called "experts"... which it wasn't. it was judged by some of the car owners, who were entered in the show btw. they were obviously really hurting for cars to enter too as they were basically trying to bribe entries with first places.
i just keep telling myself it was for a good cause. they said the money was being raised for texas children's hospital. but with so few entries (other than themselves) and apparently such large expenses, I'm not sure how much is going to go there. I guarantee that if they are dumb enough to try this again next year, I won't be entering.
One Year
Today (Sept. 6th) is my one year anniversary of owning Mary. I got a surprise anniversary gift in the mail this morning too: The new issue of MC2 Magazine containing the article on Mary inside! (see pictures on the left! Thanks, DickDavid!) it's been a whirl-wind of a year with her. Actually, it's been more like a roller coaster ride. 32,000 miles (as of today. That's not including the thousands of miles I put on loaners this year! Maybe I should move closer to my job?), a magazine article, 2nd place at hot summer nights, a trip to vegas and fredericksburg, 4 transmissions, 3 clutches, 2 a/c compressors, 3 a/c accuators, 2 shift linkages and two remote sensors. to top it off, the lighter plug in the trunk popped out this weekend in fredericksburg... need to get that fixed, I may have blown a fuse.
TEAM PMR Takes 1st and 2nd!
The results of "hot summer nights" is in and once again, simon spiller took top honours as best mini! This is the first repeat in the history of "hot summer nights!" My own Mary took second place.
Oops!
Had no idea my index page was down! sorry! it's all fixed now, tho. I'll try to be more observant from here on out. (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! oh, was that outloud?)
just back from vegas and I'm still tired! what's up with that?! Vegas was insane, as it usually is. my friend aimee is verrrrrry pregnant, but glowing none the less. amviv was crazy! I have discovered a new bunch of insane people who totally accepted me as one of their own (that's how I know that they're insane), the mininuts. PMR's own nichole martino is one of them. check 'em out!
I'm a Baaaaad Blogger!
I know, I know....I haven't updated this thing in forever. I've been busy! Really! Actually, I've had a hard time even looking at mini's lately due to my own mini troubles. Mary has been at the dealership approximately 60 days total since September 4th.
Current tally: transmissions - 4
cLUTCHES - 3
a/c compressors -2
A/C Accuators - 3, and counting
Shift linkages - 2
Just got her back last week. let's see how long the tranny holds out this time! #3 lasted one month. Ugh. Kicking myself for selling Mosquito. His tranny only died after 70,000 miles. I just hit 8,000 yesterday.
anyway, I'll try to keep the tally updated from here on out. As always, upcoming events are listed at the bottom of this page. happy new year!
Went to Vegas, Met a Fellow MINI Owner
Just got back from Vegas where I went to see one of my oldest friends graduate Law school from unlv. While I was there, I managed to snag the two of us some tickets to see Penn & Teller at the rio. I was really jazzed about this because just last week while watching "bullshit," I saw Penn explain that he owned three mini coopers and then watched him and teller get in one of them and drive off at the end of the show. How cool is that? Penn Jillette owns three MINI's!
when we were exiting the theater after watching the show, I saw teller in the hall waysurrounded by a gaggle of people. OK, not going to stop and wait in a huge line to meet him. Then I spotted a book that I've been looking everywhere for at a kiosk, so I stopped and bought it. It's a cool book about screwing with people while you're traveling called "penn & Teller's how to play in traffic." I payed for the book and low and behold, penn is standing right next to the counter with only a few people there. I decided to get him to sign my book. when it was my turn, I asked him if he could make it out to a fellow mini owner. He got really excited by this (very cool) and even more so over the idea of autocrossing mini's ("You can do that?!"). He then told me he owned three and then something about grabbing his ass...which I did (and I have to tell you honestly, he's got a nice tush!). Obviously, I didn't get to talk to him that long (by then, lots more people had gotten in line), but what he wrote in the book pretty much says it all:
So, Penn, if you're out there and reading this, let me know the next time you're in houston and we'll try to set you up with some autocrossing!
